Summary: Sometimes he feels like a little shape cut carelessly out of paper, animated by a bit of blood and a lot of dark magic.
Author's Notes: This is basically the same drabble as above, just in English as a "thank you" to [personal profile] ranalore. :) Because of the word count it was easier to rewrite than to translate.

This year, the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year begins on the 29th. This is one of our recurring prompts, and will run for three weeks, in order to cover the entirety of the festival. The coming year is the Year of the Wood Snake, symbolizing wisdom, transformation, and intuition. To prepare for the coming year, homes are thoroughly cleansed, and the festival is celebrated with red decorations, elaborate meals, visits to family, and fireworks.

As one of our recurring annual prompts, drabble sequences and drabble series are allowed. These formats are explained in this post, while the standard drabble formats are explained in the community rules.

You have until midnight your time on Friday, February 14, to answer this prompt. Note that this is a two-week period rather than the usual one week. Please post your fills of the prompt as separate entries to the community (i.e. not replies to this entry), tagged with the prompt tag. You may post multiple standalone drabbles per entry in addition to drabble sequences and series.

As a reminder, this community has no official presence elsewhere. You are encouraged to share the prompt on social media, if you so desire. It may take me a bit to create the AO3 collection, so please be patient.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and drop a link to the prompt suggestions post here. New suggestions are always, always welcome.

My apologies for all of the missed weeks. I always forget how busy things get this time of year. Speaking of which, this week's prompt is one of our recurring prompts: Dongzhi, the Chinese celebration of the winter solstice, when yin energy is believed to be at its peak. You can see how this would apply well to MDZS in all its iterations.

This is a traditional festival established during the Han Dynasty, with a focus on heaven and ancestor worship. As with many Chinese festivals, different provinces associate different foods with the festival, but a key feature is ingredients with high yang energy.

As one of our recurring annual prompts, drabble sequences and drabble series are allowed. These formats are explained in this post, while the standard drabble formats are explained in the community rules.

You have until midnight your time on Friday, January 3, to answer this prompt. Note that this is a two-week period rather than the usual one week. Please post your fills of the prompt as separate entries to the community (i.e. not replies to this entry), tagged with the prompt tag. Sorry for missing last week's prompt; the U.S. election results utterly wiped me out. In fact, you might say this week's prompt is in their dubious honor. The prompt is the classical piece "Ambush on Ten Sides". You might take inspiration from the music itself, the title, the linked performance, another performance, the pipa (the instrument for which the piece was composed), or even the idea of martial music or the structure of this piece.

In honor of Samhain/Halloween and Wei Wuxian's (extra-canonical) birthday, this week's prompt is: ghosts, demons, elementals, and monsters. Alternatively, you can also write something Wei Wuxian-centric.

This is one of our recurring annual prompts, which means that drabble sequences and drabble series are allowed, since these prompts have multiple or more complex concepts associated with them that warrant exploration in these longer formats. These formats are explained in this post, while the standard drabble formats are explained in the community rules.

This week's prompt is: behind the scenes. This could mean RPF focused on the filming of the drama or the recording of the voice acting for the drama, donghua, or audio drama. This could mean events taking place during the animation of the donghua. It could also mean RPF about the writing of the novel or any of the graphic novel adaptations.

On the other hand, a behind the scenes drabble might focus on what it takes to run a sect on a day-to-day basis, whether that be the tedious paperwork or necessary audiences with the ordinary citizens under their protection that occupy most of a sect leaders time, or the duties of the servants we see, but rarely hear, in so many scenes. It could also focus on what happens in downtime for your average disciple, like the upkeep of spiritual tools, meditation, chores, correspondence, or less exciting night-hunts.

You have until midnight your time on Friday, October 11, to answer this prompt. Please post your fills of the prompt as separate entries to the community (i.e. not replies to this entry), tagged with the prompt tag. This week's prompt is: Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival actually took place on the 17th, but y'all might sense a theme of tardiness. Such is my life of late. *shrugs*

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, has a history dating back over 3,000 years, and is based on the legend of the Moon goddess, Chang'e. In terms of a connection to all the versions of MDZS, the legend of Chang'e heavily features rabbits, which makes this a favorite festival of Lan Wangji.

This is one of our recurring annual prompts, which means that drabble sequences and drabble series are allowed, since these prompts have multiple or more complex concepts associated with them that warrant exploration in these longer formats. These formats are explained in this post, while the standard drabble formats are explained in the community rules.

DARK FLUTE AND SHINING BLADE

He toed a dejected pile of sticks and soggy paper, exposing the stump of a candle. Inches away was another. Lanterns fared badly in mountain torrents but new students, used to meandering lowland rivers, still tried. The scent of burning paper was pervasive. A few night hunts would soon disabuse them of the notion that paper money and pretty lanterns could scare a hungry ghost. His flute would be busy tonight.

A glimpse of white robes among the bamboo to his right comforted. Smiling, he raised ChenQing. Tonight, dark flute and shining blade were stronger protection than paper and fire.
