This week's prompt is: Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival actually took place on the 17th, but y'all might sense a theme of tardiness. Such is my life of late. *shrugs*

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, has a history dating back over 3,000 years, and is based on the legend of the Moon goddess, Chang'e. In terms of a connection to all the versions of MDZS, the legend of Chang'e heavily features rabbits, which makes this a favorite festival of Lan Wangji.

This is one of our recurring annual prompts, which means that drabble sequences and drabble series are allowed, since these prompts have multiple or more complex concepts associated with them that warrant exploration in these longer formats. These formats are explained in this post, while the standard drabble formats are explained in the community rules.

You have until midnight your time on Friday, September 27, to answer this prompt. Please post your fills of the prompt as separate entries to the community (i.e. not replies to this entry), tagged with the prompt tag. You may post multiple standalone drabbles per entry in addition to drabble sequences and series.

As a reminder, this community has no official presence elsewhere. You are encouraged to share the prompt on social media, if you so desire. It may take me a bit to create the AO3 collection, so please be patient.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and drop a link to the prompt suggestions post here. New suggestions are always, always welcome.

Author's Notes: I hope this isn't playing too loose with the prompt

"Let's run away to the moon together," Wen Ning would tell his sister back then, under the too-hot sun of the Nightless City.

Sometimes he feels like he really did it: a silent watcher in the night, forever locked in a separate orbit from the people he loves. But sometimes Sizhui finds him, and they sit together the whole night through, telling stories no one else can tell of the warmth their family shared before they shot down the sun. And the moon is a lonely place, he thinks, but not so lonely that they can't watch the sunrise together.
