Music scores are lined on the table. Even at a glance, Su Minshan can feel their terrible power.

Unconsciously, his hand goes to his chest, to the hidden pattern of holes. The pain remains a small price to see Jin Zixun brought low.

Across from him Jin Guangyao never breaks character, but Su Minshan has heard the stories. Silk hides bruises as well as steel, and for men like them, who have to fight for every shred of respect denied to them, such slights can only be repaid tenfold.

Smile meets empty smile. Shivering with anticipation, Su Minshan starts practicing.
