Summary: A winter evening, a moment of quiet.

Wei Wuxian considers dignified silence overrated. Naturally, that has to do with the difficulty he has in keeping his mouth shut for long—but he has also experienced painful silences from early on in his life: lonely silences, freezing, seething, embarrassed, fearful silences that seemed to go on forever. If he could not talk them away, he could at least talk over them. And so often he has found dignity hollow.

Standing in the doorway of the Jingshi, however, watching the softly drifting snowflakes, conscious of Lan Wangji sitting behind him—so still—suddenly he feels no need for words.
