A NEW CONCEPT

Lan Zhan shifted, trying for a less painful position. A Wen doctor had pronounced the leg healed to a point where splinting was superfluous. Pain relief was offered but rejected. Wangji trusted no-one here.

He straightened as the doors opened, admitting a boy flanked by guards. The youngster dipped a timid bow, offering up a tray of pristine white fabric. “Master Lan, the opening ceremony begins. These clothes are for you.”

A glance at his present travel-soiled and rumpled outfit and Wangji nodded. Changing would cause less distress to friends.

Friends. There was a word he had never used before.

I liked how this was both about changing clothes and changing ideas and feelings!

Really enjoyed the tone and the way the plot moved. Great drabble. Fun to read few a few times and let it all sink it.

Thank you! I confess I'm not happy with the sentence structure but I gave up after an hour of tinkering.
