Four months into his lonely travels, a new feeling stirs in his heart that Wei Wuxian acknowledges under the darkness of a forest night as Apple sleeps nearby, he doesn’t want to allow himself to put a name to this new chord growing in his heart.

Longing.

Naming it would make the emotion he’s feeling real, because it's scary new. And yet he doesn’t want to lose this new something he could have with his dearest friend, his soulmate after losing everything else to his own actions last time.

The next morning, he steers Apple towards Gusu and Lan Zhan.
