Qiren had never known the boy to be silent as he was now, especially when he had come to enjoy listening to Wuxian ramble about something that had his magpie-like interest in their day to day lives. Whether it was about a new talisman he’d just thought about, to the antics of the rabbit’s when they came into contact with a certain donkey or himself, to whatever new food he’d discovered on his travels. Along with his notes on monsters he’d disposed of for those who couldn't afford a cultivator’s help.
But a silent Wuxian, he’d learned to never trust in mixed company.
It usually meant that the boy was up to something nefarious or that the boy was so very deep into his darkest thoughts that their family was not likely to see him for weeks until he willingly chose to resurface to rejoin the world.
Currently, he was being silent with their family group, not seeing the concerned looks aimed at him as he stared at his now cold tea.
“Wuxian.”
Wuxian blinks once before looking at him across the table. “Shufu?”
“Are you well boy?”
“Yes.” He looks down. “I had a question that I've been trying to gather the courage to ask.”
“Go on.”
“You once mentioned knowing my mother. I was wondering if you had any writings of hers that I could read? I wish I knew her better.”
Qiren considers. “Perhaps. I should still have something of hers that survived the Wens sacking our home. Letters and her own punishment lines. Would that interest you?”
His eyes brighten as Wangji smiles slightly into his tea cup while Sizhui and Xichen watch their interaction with keen interest. “I would be allowed to read them? Not secret?”
“No secrets, let me find them first.”
“Thank you.”
