Swallowing Tears

Title: Swallowing Tears
Author: Himring
Word Count/Drabble Type: 100 words in MS Word
Character(s)/Ship(s): Jiang Yanli
Rating/Warnings: PG (reference to canonical character death and mourning)
Summary: Jiang Yanli, among the Lanling Jin, is both homesick and mourning and fiercely misses Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng.

In the long grass of the meadow we lay and wept, the three of us together.

Only three left, of Jiang—but now how long since I saw you! I am among well-meaning strangers. Gratitude and manners are expected, continuously. How can there be weeping in such company!

Take away brocade, jewelled hairpins, peonies! If only I could walk that broken pier, wash that crushed lotus with unrestrained tears…

In your heart, do you not both feel that lotus grows where I am? But how long since you allowed yourself to remember? Oh, if you were again at my side!

I really love the poetic rhythm of this, and how unrestrained it is. I always felt like Yanli would be the sort to write really passionate diary entries as a means to help her maintain her exquisite etiquette. She's a Jiang, after all; all that drama has to go somewhere!
