Guest Lectures: History
Title: History
Author: EHyde
Word Count/Drabble Type: 100 words
Character: Wen Ning
Rating/Warnings: PG
Summary: in a time travel au, Wen Ning seeks Wei Wuxian out earlier
Author's Notes: novel canon (so WN didn't originally attend the lectures)
~~~~
"A Wen, here?"
"What's Wen Ruohan planning?"
At first, Wen Ning tries to ignore the whispers following him - rules forbidding gossip notwithstanding - throughout the Cloud Recesses. It's not long before he realizes he enjoys hearing them. They're inevitably followed by "That's just Wen Ning, he's harmless," and it's been a long, long time since anyone called Wen Ning harmless.
"So," asks Wei Wuxian, "why are you really here?"
Wen Ning considers. He's here to change the future, of course, but instead, he gives the answer he wants to believe. "To - to make friends, and. And to be like everybody else."
He would want that. I hope he gets a better future in this AU.
The ending is so poignant - of course, if he succeeds in changing the future, he won't become the Ghost General, and so his stated goals will come true, too.
