“I don’t really remember Qishan well.”

Wen Ning doesn’t remember it well either, not really. “Our ancestral home was modest. I was shocked when I’d learned they’d bothered burning it to the ground.”

“I always thought it was cruel to do to them what they’d done to us.”

The Wens, a them, the Lans, an us. “It was war.”

“Could you show me some of the Wen forms?”

Not without practicing, not without embarrassing himself. He shakes his head.

“Then…” A-Yuan’s face scrunches in thought, and it’s Wen Ning’s late uncle he sees. “What about how to heal like a Wen?”

Their different points of view become very clear!
I especially like this bit:
"A-Yuan’s face scrunches in thought, and it’s Wen Ning’s late uncle he sees."
littledust: Lan Sizhui smiling slightly and being the best boy! ([cql] i carry their blood too)

I love Sizhui carrying on the Dafan Wen healer legacy so much. ♥

I feel for Wen Ning so much, and I love how you've captured that Sizhui is both family he thought he'd lost completely, and a stranger raised in a clan with whom his own has a terrible history. But they're both doing their best to reach across that gap, and I like that it might be the things specific to the Dafan Wen that will help them connect.

The Wens, a them, the Lans, an us

Wen Ning's POV here is so poignant! He looks at Lan Sizhui and sees Wen Yuan, but he still recognizes the changes he's gone through.

And then, the final paragraph shows us the Wen family connection is still there, in A-Yuan's appearance and in his desire to learn. ♥ ♥ ♥
