I love how the omniscient narrator creates a distance that heightens the menace, and allows for the observation and connection of details that limited third-person wouldn't. In particular, I love the focus on the connection Wei Wuxian spoke of between Bicao's revelation and Qin Su's death. I think Bicao's like Sect Leader Yao; she doesn't actually care what damage she does, as long as she feels she's playing a key role in a grand drama. And like Sect Leader Yao, she's cheaply bought. Qin Su and her mother deserved so much better.
