Family letters are worth ten thousand pieces: Unintended Consequences

Title:Unintended Consequences

Character(s)/Ship(s):Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue
Rating/Warnings:G
Author's Notes:Unbetaed

Huaisang would never admit this to anyone—anyone—but the best thing about coming to Cloud Recesses is reading Da-ge’s letters. They sound exactly like him. Not like Chifeng-zun, not like his perpetually disappointed brother, they sound like the Nie Mingjue that Huaisang would love to have as a friend.

Da-ge’s brush strokes speak as clearly as he does. They get smoother when he’s feeling sad or fond, messy and a little cramped when he’s excited. Today he has used formal precision for a Qinghe idiom and his dimple practically leaps from the page.

Huaisang considers failing again this year.

That is an interesting twist on "absence makes the heart grow fonder" applied to their particular situation!

Nice! I love the focus on NMJ’s brush strokes, that’s a really neat way to convey character.
